Science Festival Connects Students with Local STEM Careers

The 2026 Isle of Wight Science Festival will return to Cowes Enterprise College on Wednesday 1 July, bringing together students, employers and STEM professionals from across the Island.

The event aims to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists and technology specialists by giving young people hands-on experiences with real-world science and direct access to local career opportunities.

More than 240 Year 10 and sixth form students are expected to attend the careers event, where they will meet professionals from Island-based businesses and organisations to learn about career pathways, qualifications, skills and future job prospects in STEM industries.

Following the success of previous festivals, organisers hope more than 40 companies and organisations will support this year’s event with interactive exhibits, workshops and demonstrations designed to “light a spark” for future careers in science, technology and engineering.

Last year’s festival featured robotics, renewable energy technology, forensic science activities and engineering challenges, helping students connect classroom learning with potential careers on the Isle of Wight.

Island-based STEM businesses, engineering companies, technology organisations and training providers are now being invited to take part in the event. Businesses can support the festival through interactive exhibits, demonstrations, workshops or by speaking with students about careers, apprenticeships and future pathways into industry.

Organiser Graham Thomas said the festival is designed to support both young people and local employers by raising awareness of the wide range of STEM careers available on the Island and encouraging future talent into the sector.
