Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025

Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2025 is here, and it’s a time to celebrate the many ways apprenticeships help shape the workforce of tomorrow. Running from February 10th to 16th, this annual event shines a light on how apprenticeships provide individuals with practical skills, real-world experience, and valuable career opportunities. Whether in engineering, healthcare, IT, or other industries, apprenticeships offer a unique route to success, combining paid work with training to help young people launch meaningful careers.

Apprenticeships not only help bridge the skills gap but also support economic growth and career development for individuals of all ages. In fact, apprenticeships are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to traditional higher education, offering a hands-on approach to learning and ensuring that apprentices are ready to meet the needs of employers.

What’s Happening on the Isle of Wight?

Locally, the Isle of Wight is embracing National Apprenticeship Week with a number of exciting events and initiatives. The Isle of Wight Council officially launched the week with a flag-raising ceremony at County Hall. The Council has been a strong advocate for apprenticeships, with over 500 staff members participating in more than 70 apprenticeship programs since 2017.

Another key Island based event this week is the visit of the Apprenticeship Bus, organised by the Careers and Enterprise Company. On Wednesday and Thursday, the bus will be visiting local schools, where apprentices from GKN, BAE Systems, the Isle of Wight Council, NHS Isle of Wight, and HTP Apprenticeship College will share their personal experiences of being apprentices. These inspiring stories aim to encourage young people to consider apprenticeships as a viable and rewarding career path.

Councillor Jonathan Bacon said, “Apprenticeships offer people the chance to gain skills and experience while earning, and they are a fantastic way for young people to start their careers. This week is a great opportunity to showcase the diverse range of apprenticeship opportunities available on the Isle of Wight.”

Throughout the week, the Isle of Wight Council will also be sharing success stories and resources for those interested in starting their own apprenticeship journey. Whether you’re a student, a parent, or someone looking to switch careers, National Apprenticeship Week is the perfect time to explore the many ways apprenticeships can help you succeed.
