Young people across the Island interested in exploring careers in healthcare are being encouraged to apply for the next Isle of Wight NHS Trust Work Experience Programme, taking place during the week commencing 20 April 2026.
The programme offers a taster of careers across the NHS and is open to Island residents aged 16-25 who are in at least Year 12 (or equivalent). It is designed to give participants an insight into how the health service operates and the wide range of roles involved in delivering patient care.
Applications for the programme are now open and will close on Wednesday 25 March 2026. Interested students can find further information, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, via the Trust’s work experience pages.
For students specifically planning to apply to medical school, the Trust also runs a separate A-Level medical work experience opportunity. This programme is aimed at Year 12 or 13 students studying A-level sciences or maths, which are typically required for medical school applications. The experience allows students to gain a clearer understanding of the realities of working as a doctor, including time spent observing clinical teams in hospital settings.
The programme aims to give local young people a clearer picture of careers in health and care and help inspire the next generation of NHS professionals on the Isle of Wight.
